In September I launched Demystifying Instructional Design – a podcast where I interview instructional designers about what instructional designers do. I’ve just finished posting my 9th episode! Initially I didn’t feel like I could call myself a podcaster, because I just started. Now that I have almost a full season under my belt, I feel safe to say I’m a podcaster.
I’ve decided that I’m going to end season 1 after episode 10. I’ll take a short break over the holiday and then start up season 2 in the new year. It is incredible to be thinking about the podcast in “seasons”.
It is still a lot of work. I’m still trying to figure out the best way streamline the editing process. I tried making my process into an infographic, and that highlighted to me that I’m switching between tools too often, which means I’m not using the tools to their full potential. I’d love to watch someone who does professional audio editing using both Adobe Audition and Descript. I’d like to see what tricks they use to make editing more efficient.
The part that I’m really enjoying is the opportunity to interview a variety of people. I started off with asking basic questions about what instructional designers do, but as time goes by I’m going to look at some more specialized interviews. One of my first set of specialized interviews is around creating a portfolio and professional presence. I’ve chosen that largely because I’m teaching a class on it in the spring, and this lets me do a bunch of research for my course!
If you’d like to learn more about instructional design, I encourage you to subscribe to my podcast and follow my blog at Demystifying Instructional Design.
