I like some features of my Android phone – like Swype text entry – but I could not figure out how to stop email notifications. I managed to change the sound so that it wasn’t so intrusive, but still, I didn’t want to be audibly notified every time someone sends me an email! I turned off notifications within the email application – setup on my home screen, so I figured that should do it – but no – every time an email comes in I got an audible notification. To make it stop at night I installed SweetDreams – a useful app that lets me set a quiet time where the phone doesn’t ring or notify, but still, this shouldn’t be that difficult. After doing a few Internet searches, I saw a mention of the gmail app. Then is occurred to me. My phone has both a mail app and a gmail map – both of which were configured when I told the phone my gmail account. It turns out the gmail app was causing the audible notifications, not the mail app.
